CSS is always the way to go if you ask me... having a div w/ overflow set is the way to control overflowed areas while still keeping everything inline and intact. And if applicable you could turn that div into an include for easy reuse.

But to create it properly you create the site to be optimized for both. It's very easy to do and really only relies on the fundamentals. If it's beyond ones skillset then maybe they shouldn't consider themselves to be "web designers" Wink

HostMySite.com has always offered a Search Engine Submission with all of our hosting plans - it has the following details:

- submits to 500 search engines at once
- one time submission
- one time fee of $20
- expect results in 6 - 8 weeks
- no assurance of any particular ranking

This is a nice feature, however we often get clients inquiring about optimization and guaranteed ranking, which is something that we don't currently support. Has anyone had any luck with paid (or free) services that will do this?

There really aren't that many search engines that you need to be listed within to see some level of success with search engines, and there are a number of things that you can do that will be more beneficial than a blanket submission to a large number of search engines. Not to denigrate hostmysite's service, but I'd recommend focusing upon some fundamentals of search engine optimization instead.

This site provides plenty of tips and tricks to get your site to the top of the search engines, but they are also in league with the search engine's advertising arm's as well.

Danny's site is an excellent one to look at for news of search engines, and I'd recommend it highly. While it does have advertising from search engines, it isn't afraid to criticize search engines and their practices. The blog attached to the site is a great place to learn news about search engines, and the forum is visited by many people who are terrific at search engine optimization, and are willing to share some of their knowledge and opinions.

I believe it can as it's what's known as a code 302 which is a Moved temporarily (redirect). For some reason not every search engine likes those...

True. They tend to react much better to a 301 (permanent) redirect.

Some of the very basics of optimizing a site can be found in the search engine guidelines from Google:
