Ok - strangest thing just happened to me...

Today - just a few hours ago - I was sitting at my computer browsing the web just fine...I checke da few bills online and then browsed a few more websites and then decided to make some reservations on Expedia. So I browse to Expedia and I can't get in thier secure pages...wierd...so I try another site...no go on SSL, and another and another...I swear to you...all of a sudden SSL just quite working. Can't get into any HTTPS secured site on my system either with FireFox or IE. Tried system restore...no go - tried an earlier System restore...still no go. Uninstalled & reinstalled firefox..no go...tried all the fixes for IE that are strewn throughout the internet...no go.

I'd try to do an XP repair installation - except - I CAN'T! I have SP2 installed and I'd end up with more problems if I took that backwards step.

It was amazing...never seen anything like this...I'm tempted to go out and get a new router in case that was what it was that broke...only thing is - the wifes PC can get on the SSL sites no problem...what a headache!

HOLY CRAPPOLLA

It just worked again

You are NOT going to believe this...

I use Shareaza for P2@P & Torrents etc...

Well eveidently what happened - and this is a best guess - when I shut it down earlier in the day, it fouled up something in my TCP stack internet network connection protocol thingymawhatchit somewhere somehow. So I wrote the above message to all you guys...decided to try Shareaza again and see if it was could connect becuase I have specific ports set aside for it. Well I saw that all my connections were timing out so I figured what they heck...I'll look at my router settings. Everythign seemed to be in order, all my settings were as they were supposed to be but I reapplied them for good measure anyway. So the router restarts itself and now everything is back to normal.

WTF?!?!

I have a Netgear RP614v3. So either it was restarting that app (highly unlikely) or restarting that router (much more likely) that did the trick.

What a headache!

Note to self...wierd network issues - restart the router FIRST...

I might end up doing the same if this continues...I've had to reset this thing quite a few times...more than I care to...

I've shyed away from Linksys because they are - well - not Netgear! But now...I may have to change my opinion! But maybe I got a bad router so I may just return it and try a new Netgear first...

I dont think u got a bad one scott, I talked to quite a few ppl including several friends in who work in that department and all said the netgear was junk and everyone and I mean everyone recommended the linksys, as far as mine goes haven't had 1 prob with it yet.

I bought a mac today on ebay lol, but we'll see how it goes with adding another connection to it, so far it has 2 puters on it and going well.

I had a similar problem with SSL pages on my home machine a while back. If I tried to load a page using SSL I would get a page not found. My roommates system worked perfectly. I wasnt using Firefox at the time so I couldnt test it there. What is turned out to be was the Cipher Strength was somehow changed from 128-bit to 0-bit. If you go to Tools and select About Internet Explorer. I checked microsofts website for a fix and applied the fix they suggested and nothing changed. After trying a few things I ended up formatting the machine and starting from scratch (which I needed to do anyway) and it fixed it.

That is interesting though about the router. We have a netgear router at home, although I dont think we have run into this problem.

My old setup was a Netgear hub wiht a Netgear WAP connected into it (I went wireless AFTER I bought the hub...) and we never had ANY problems with it. So, when I got highspeed - I just went with what I had used so sucessfully before and now we are having probs.

If the issues continue I am going to be buying a new router...it's ashamed that the only two real consumer level brands out there are Netgear and Linksys. I don't even wanna mention the B word...

Anyone have any other suggestions for QUALITY network hardware? There's gotta be other stuff out there...even if it's more expensive I'm willing to pay for performance.

I've the same problem with the Netgear RP614v3 Router. I have two computers connected to the router and on the other one everything's fine. No problem with SSL / https connections. But on mine i am not able to connect to any https sites. I cannot say, if it's really the Netgear Router because the cable modem (brand name: artis?) which is connected to the Netgear also is running into connection problems sometimes. After restarting the cablemodem everything's back to normal.

I'm gonna try out just to restart the router if problems with SSL reappear.

It can't hurt that's for sure - I mean if it's broke - restarting it is not going "break it more" if you take my meaning...

Imagine if Microsoft made cars...

Car not performing the way you want? Simply pull off the road, close all the windows, turn off your car, then turn it back on.

heh - oh so true

Every time they repainted the lines on the road, you'd have to buy a new car.
Occasionally your car would just die on the motorway for no reason, and you'd have to restart it. For some strange reason, you'd just accept this, restart and drive on.
Occasionally, executing a manoeuvre would cause your car to stop and fail to restart and you'd have to re-install the engine. For some strange reason, you'd just accept this too.
You could only have one person in the car at a time, unless you bought a "Car Server". But then you'd have to buy more seats.
We'd all have to switch to Microsoft gas and all auto fluids
The airbag system would say "Are you sure?" before going off.
If you couldn't afford to buy a new car, then you could just borrow your friends, and then copy it.
Occasionally for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key, and grab hold of the radio antenna.

hy bobum,

id like to know which firmware youre using on the netgear RP614v3 router...
i just purchased one of those for a little company, and thought about bying the same... but now that I read some bad things about it im not sure any more...

so i just upgraded the firmware to version 6.0 (i dont know if i really upgraded it or if it was allready on it)...

so long i have no problems with it, but i also have to say that there is no download client (like emule or mldonkey) in this company...

thanks in advance
