We purchased a dedicated server from HMS on Feb 28 2008. And let me say, its coooooooooooooool.
Starting from marketing level: Scott Butz,, he is awesome.. Good Technical knowledge, Nice way of interacting.. Replies to all queries.. Great. Next came the techies.. Stephan, Ryan.. Awesome. When we ask two things, they give us three.. They just dont blindly do what we ask for.. Give their suggestion, tells us, what is good, whats bad... I really recommed HMS for any dedicated server clients. Cheers to All HMS Staff.. yeah.. I missed one point. Once i called DSE on Phone.. TWO RINGS.. I got a technician who solved the issue, then and there.. Only one negative: We dont get any technician on Live chat.. wait for 15 mins.. Then the message comes.. "Department Unavailable"... So nowadays, we dont try Live chat.. instead submit a ticket and get the support. |

The only technicians who are taking chats are first and second level support. Technicians will take a most two chats at a time, as such this can result in your chats bouncing around a bit until a technician becomes available. Additionally SEs don't take chats so that we can focus our efforts on escalated issues. However you should feel free to call us at any time. We certainly appreciate your kind words! |

Thank you for the info. I would love it see those snaps. Try to include all your employees- Scott, Stevan, Ryan etc etc.. Well another question: Would'nt it be nice to give permission for dedicated server users to add domain to your DNS Server? What issue can happen if you give that option? Just my thought.. I contact support atleast 2 per day to add domain to DNS Server. |

Hi jason,
I would like to share my experience on HELM we used in our Dedicated server. It was good, powerful and so on. But unfortunately, we came a across a scenario, where we had to upgrade/downgrade an account. That was'nt available in HELM. So we had to stop HELM and we installed Hosting Controller. Even HC has got its own problem. If any users here would like to share their experience on Hosting management software, please post yours. I would like share my experience, issues concerns over here, so that we all get benefitted. |

We are really particular about our DNS servers since they are, quite simply, the single most important step in the resolution process. So while this would be a nice feature, it's one that we take a "better safe than sorry" approach on. It would be terribly bad if a dedicated server customer's control panel login was somehow compromised and the culprit wrote a script to add domains to DNS until the server crashed, or something else crazy like that.
One thing we can do is bulk add domains for you, so if you have a list that you know need to move eventually, you can send it over. We can add them right away and it won't have any impact until you update their nameservers to our HostMySite.com nameservers. Hope this addresses the question! Regards, Dave Malone |

We were thinking about using HELM, but we are running Windows Server 2008, and HELM doesn't support it. So we looked into DotNetPanel. DotNetPanel was very fast, and had some good features. But in the end, we opted to scrap a control panel all together since all we offer to our clients is a complete managed solution. So there's really no need for it. Now, if it had a good billing system we may have reconsidered. We may look at it again after it matures a little bit, and supports more software (such as Coldfusion). But for now, we like the flexibility of doing everyting on the server without a CP in the way.
I have however heard of Helm running well with Windows Server 2003. But I'm learly as Helm was Sold to SWSoft, which was then sold to parallels. By reading the foums over at helm, I'm not sure the direction helm is going. |

Verbatec, Have you ever considered running DNS on your server like SimpleDNS or Microsoft DNS? That would give you total control over your DNS records. |

No,. Jason, not yet!. We just had our Dedicated server and we are not good in server admins. We are into SW development. So its our school time with dedicated server. Our main issue was with emails. 2000+ Emails in different domains. We were hosting in a shared environment with another host. We had some shared accounts in 1999 with HMS and then pulled out. But i still remember HMS service, uptime. So in 2008, when we thought of dedicated server, we opted HMS over RS. As mentioned earlier, Emails: that was our main concern. So we moved them all to new server and since one month- NO ISSUES. |

Can you elaborate on your issues with HC. We've finally gotten to the point where we've outgrown bastion all in one setups like plesk and need to move in a server farm direction. Hosting Controller was on the top of the list. I'm more concerned with CF support then I am with win2008. We actually just purchased 8 more servers for HC jst to run the various services. (dns1-4, mail, mssql, mysql and dedicated HC login server.) Thanks. |
