New Features in SM5

SmarterMail 5.x Release Notes (Subject to Change)

All New Interface

* General Design
o Entirely new Interface and Design
o Optimized AJAX interface
o Drag and Drop Messages
o Extensive use of Splitters and Tab controls similar to conventional application interfaces
o Right mouse click support throughout
o Keyboard shortcuts supported for all grids (arrow keys, delete key, etc.)
o In-page popups to speed common tasks (warnings, adding, deleting, confirmations etc.)
o New skinning subsystem compatible with all SmarterTools products based on the STInterfaceFramework
* Messaging and RSS Feeds
o Added timeframe to email searches
o Added right preview pane
o Added popup reading of messages
o Added ability for Shared folders to be created under sub folders
o Added better viewing and folder management to RSS section
o Added option to set number of days of Tasks and Appointments on My Today page
o Added new disk space indicator which is clickable and links to disk usage report

o Changed sorting on message lists to appropriately sort by selected column with secondary sort by Date
* Compose
o Added Compose Within Popup feature allowing for composing multiple messages at once and to compose while simultaneously using Collaboration or other features
o Added Attachment uploading in the background while composing
o Added automatic saving of draft messages
o Added default Font settings (type and size) on a per user basis
* Contacts
o Added “By Category” and “No Category” views
o Added phone numbers to contacts grid
o Changed contacts page to display all contact information (rather than in Advanced view)
* Calendaring
o Changed naming convention for Events and Meetings to Appointments
o Added “Upcoming Appointments” view
o Added “All Appointments” view to easily manage large quantities of appointments at one time
o Added new Availability option for Domains in addition to Sharing Permissions
o Added time selectors for all dates
o Changed “Day”, “Weekly”, and “Monthly” views to display more information and improve readability

New Major Features

* Added Event System – Allowing Administrators, Domain Administrators, and Users to act on Events that occur throughout the system. Extremely powerful and intended to allow an infinite number of unique customizations not found in other mail servers.
* Added Reminders System – Introduces Administrators, Domain Administrators and Users to a real-time Reminder system from such as Calendars, Tasks or from the Event System.
* Added Notification Profile System – Customize Notification Profiles for any groups on the System, Domain or within a User account. Assign Events to Notification Profiles, which can be any number of notifications such as Reminders, SMS, Instant Messenger or Email.
* Added Reporting System – The first complete Analytics Engine for a Mail Server. Introduces summary and trend reporting on the system, protocols, domains, users and more. Complete drill down capabilities at all levels allowing for complete abuse, usage, or planning evaluation. Including favorites, custom reports, exporting to excel, and email reports as well.

System Administration

o Added all reporting items as PerfMon counters for the SmarterMail service
o Added new management interfaces for Current Connections and Current Blocks
o Added the ability to immediately blacklist connections
