Does HMS plan on upgrading these VPS servers with version 8? Their shared plans already have been updated. Just wanted to check and see if anyone knows anything.

I wouldn't get my hopes up. I've had my Windows VPS since it was in beta last June of 06. When HMS started to recently include SmarterMail 4 on new VPS setups, I asked if I can have my smarter mail upgraded, and they said no, and that I would have to purchase an upgraded key ($199 mind you) from smartertools.

But maybe Coldfusion will be different. Here's hoping Confused

CF 8 will be rolled out onto our shared servers first. Currently we do not have an ETA on when we will be supporting CF 8 on our shared and dedicated servers.

BUT, we are working towards that end!

Great, this was something that a support team member stated would occur as well (an eventual upgrade to CF8 on VPSes). This was one of the reasons I went ahead and bought before the official release! Smile

Coldfusion 8 is now available on Windows VPS. I hope we can see an upgrade on existing VPS's soon.

Due to concerns about compatibility we're leaning more and more towards providing new CF8 VPS accounts to clients running on the CF7 ones and allowing them to migrate their data, with assistance from our support staff as needed.

How do your current VPS hosting accounts go about requesting an upgrade?

Good question. I called support to inquire and they said an upgrade was currently unavailable.

Well, then I'll venture a guess that we would be notified when the upgrade is possible.

Jamie, when you say compatibility do you mean, compatibility between CF8 and the VPS software (virtuoso) or compatibility of the ".cfm" running on CF8?

I would be very reluctant to move to a new VPS. I have about 60 very low traffic sites (some with certs and mail) set up on my VPS. The set up time would take days.

Jamie, can you share any detail about what would the difference between a CF7 VPS and a CF8 VPS.

If there is an improvement to the VPS like better memory management of the VPS. Then that alone would be worth the time for the migration. Even with the upgraded memory option, just running a clean install of windows, SQL, CF and Verity with a few verity collections taxes the memory resources to over 90%. When 100% is reached CF crashes.
