CF VPS+ performance?

I'm considering a CF VPS + plan and am curious as to the performance. My CF scripts and DB needs are modest (CF is a simple homegrown CMS, DB is not more than 5-10 MB, relatively simple queries which get cached).

I would be running MySQL 5, SmarterMail, SmarterStats. Average traffic is expected to be:

- page views (daily): 20,000
- hits: 450,000
- bandwidth: 1.75 GB

Mail traffic would be a couple thousand messages a day, mostly spam. Probably less than 50MB in e-mail on any given day.

Again, just curious as to whether or not the CF VPS + can handle this decently.

Thanks,
John

I have no experience with CF but I can tell you that I was running a site of the the same scale on the Base Windows VPS ( 256 RAM ). The performance was horrible. Now that I have figured out what a VPS can handle I have reduced the VPS to hosting just Smarter Stats and the ASP.NET Website. the Mail and mySQL DB are now both on the HMS shared systems. Unless CF is a real Memory hog, I dont' see any reason you couldn't pull it off with a CF VPS+. Unless you have a big MySQL DB then it might have trouble.

Considering how much that costs per month, if you have the money, I would suggest you build your own server ( you can find 1U rack Servers on Ebay for cheap!!! ), then load it up and colo with HMS for about $120 / month.

I have a CF VPS + Running 12 websites which are a mix of 1 PHP, MySQL5 (1 DB) , MSSQL Server (3 Databases), and 11 Coldfusion websites. All of the coldfusion websites run off of a custom CMS. But as soon as I put an E-Commerce site on my VPS performace suffers. I don't think it can handle all the database hits involved with the E-Commerce site. I move the same site to a shared server, and I don't have the problem.

I think it's all about the way you configure your server for the performance. I never have the memory probelms with MySQL or MSSQL like everyone speaks of, and both sites running on each get 60,000+ visits a day

Thanks. This will be a learning process for me, but it won't be an e-commerce site. I think I'll be OK...
