If you want accurate colors you need to calibrate your displays, be it CRT or LCD:

Spyder:

Eye-One:
http://na.eye-onecolor.com/

And you need to recalibrate on a regular basis (every 30 days or so for CRT, longer is OK for LCD). Be sure to allow your monitor to warmup for an hour or so before calibrating.

As for LCD clarity, they will only be 'sharp' when run at their native resolution since an LCD display has a discrete number of pixels and running at a resolution lower than the native one will result in more pixels being used to represent a single pixel which, depending upon the hardware implementation will result in a fuzzy display or a display with wacked out jaggies. Some displays have the option to turn this feature off and just reduce the image to use only a part of the screen and thus remain 1:1 and sharp, but smaller.

I'm colorblind anyway so having accurate colors just throws everything off for me anyways...

I don't want to work on anything less than a 21" - I've been spoiled.
And I can't see paying $1000 for a 21" lcd when I can get CRTS for <$200

That's about my only beef...I do like to see what my sites look like on LCD's - they are more "pixel correct" than CRT's

But with the way I am going what with CSS and all...Pixel Correctness is going out the window.

im kinda the opposite, i thought even the 19" was to big 4 me not to mention a 21"
and this 17" lcd is a bit bigger than the nec 19", so the way the screens are bigger u can use a 19" lcd and be at least the same size as a 21" crt

and believe me bo bum there is a big diff in quality!

and linux is absolutly breathe taking on an lcd

How can a 21" be smaller than a 19"

They still measure form corner to corner right?

actually he's about right... for some reason the VIEWABLE area of the LCD's is larger... you get a 19" CRT you get a 17" viewable area... you get a 19" LCD you get almost a 19" viewable area.

Diagonal on CRT's is a measurement of the actual TUBE size. Some of the tube is masked off by the bezel and not really used for display area hence the difference in the diagonal measurement and viewable area. (Same with TV's)

LCD's don't have a tube and hence no masked area so the diagonal measurement is the actual size of the screen you see in front of you.

CRT's typically have about 1" of masked area so 17" monitors display around 16" of display area, 19" around 18.1" etc. There was a lot of uproar about this in the 80's and I believe mfg's were then required to place labels on boxes and ads indicating the true VIEWABLE area on TV's and monitors.

One caveat to this is widescreen displays. They're very cool but they also cheat with the screen size because it's measured diagonally. I hate math so I'm not going to spend any time proving this, but calculate the total screen area for a 4:3 15" screen vs. a 16:9 15" screen if you're curious

Also, the wider the display the worse it is
