I am the owner of a company for 4 years, and have realized the typing in a shortened version of my domain name takes me to another company that states to have the same name. However, if you type in numerous other addresses the page dynamically changes to form the name of that NEW company. The company is based out of New Hampshire, however, I have DELAWARE in my name, so they are obviously mass marketing their page structure.

Does anyone know how or what steps I can take to have them release the domain name to me? Is this really against the 'law' for cyber squatting or something similar?

Don't think the other guy is doing anything illegal there...you should have headed him off at the pass and bought all those other domains when you were setting up your company if you were worried about someone using an abbreviated version of your domain. Good rule of thumb is to buy more domains than you think you'll ever need - domains are cheap - customers lost to mistyped or incorrect domains that go other places can be expensive.

^^^ Best advice I can give as well. You gotta spend money to make money, and like Bobum said, domains are cheap.

Understandable, and yes, domains are cheap. I did buy all that I thought were good at the time. My concern however isn't that it links to their website (that's something anyone can do), it's that the user then assumes that the company is me. This is so because the page's text dynamically changes to the name that you typed in for the domain. So basically, they are mimicing my name and calling themselves that. They are doing this for many other states as well. However, their REAL name isn't even close to the names they are utilizing. Is this making sense?

So basically, it's not that they are another business that has the same name as me (that would be fine), it's that the name of their business is only relative to the domain that is typed in, a very shady way to do business, since now it has affected me in making changing the page to have the same name as me.

Hmm...unless you could sue for false advertising, I'm not sure if this is illegal or not? What's the domain(s) you're concerned with, to make this a little more clear?

yup - it'd make more sense if we could SEE what the action is you are describing...

there is probably nothing you can do, unless they are attempting to impersonate your web presence in a bad way, or if you had the name trademarked. ie something like pepsi

one of the biggest domain name battles was over nissan.com and I think nissan motor corp lost that battle, kind of, they still didn't get the domain name, but the owner can't use it for commercial purposes.
