so basically stay away from anything thats has to ms & internet in the same sentance and u will be ok Wink

it is amazing how after u stop using those there isnt much spy or adware like bo bum said

the biggest thing on running av is not to get one of the big commercial products if nothing else they hog your resources and none are real good anymore, the free ones are even better.

of course u could just switch to LINUX! haha (couldnt resist)

however there is an free one that was made for linux but has xp now is called clam something or other, supposed to be really good!

I think I may have mentioned this somewhere else on this board, but it warrants repeating:

I had a discussion with a college professor the other day that WOULD NOT upgrade his browser from Netscape 4.8. He listed the following reasons:

1. He didn't want to get any spyware and 'newer' browsers are more prone to security holes
2. He like the HTML editor that came with that version of Netscape
3. Firefox or IE slows down his workstation too much.

When I first read the ticket with that information, I was a bit taken aback. One of those "there is so much wrong with this I don't know where to start"

someone needs to take away his crack pipe!

but within this post of Jamies really shows what has happened to the interent and ppl who use it.

they are so scared of whats out there and all the horror stories that they are afraid to try anything new. And A LOT of that goes right back to redmond because of the products they make, leave the users in a suseptible position to get all those bad things.
Yet ppl are so scared they wont change from the very evil that scares them, completely stupid if u ask me!

just like viruses.....
there probably wouldnt be nearly the problems with it if it wasnt so easy to attack windows. Would there still be some? sure but nowhere near what it is now!
and u can contribute that right back to redmond.

they make u think there products all interact and make your life simpler (which makes them money duh) but does it? whats simplier? like josh said well outlook has calendaring (whoo hoo!!) have u seen the calendaring and all the apps that come with linux 4 free?
ok but back to the "makes my life easier by using the ms product line"
Think about it, all that does is put more money in bills pants and continues to give ill wishers an easy avenue to do there dirty deeds with.
Intregration, folks its not good, its what actually scares u and makes u afraid to leave but really does u no good.

we have o this board come to the conclusion that the best way to fight all thats bad on the net is to seperate the browser from os and yet u dont do it, why?
its funny how ppl complain about it yet all they do is support what hurts them.

so hate me for hating ms but think about it.....................
at least im one less person that will send u a virus

again im really not trying to bash them but take a good look at whats going on (with an open mind) and what i wrote will make sense

I think alot of the fear has to do with misconceptions of the complexity of changing.

It wasn't too long ago that everything on the computer was command line and people haven't forgotten that. MS came along and made it nice and graphical and easy to use. If they change from that - it's going to get complex again.

It' like this...you look at a car, and you see a gas pedal, a brake and a steering wheel. People are comfortable with that and know they can operate it. Then they see a jet fighter and it has 2 rudders and a stick. OMG - a STICK?? You mean I have to learn a WHOLE NEW WAY of doing things now???

Well - not really - you push left you go left - you push right you go right - just like in a car - BUT LOOK HOW MUCH FASTER YOU GO!! AND LOOK AT ALL THE COOL STUFF YOU CAN DO!!

But the perception is that it's so much different that it will be too complex to overcome.
