I know that on my local IIS I have to set my directory as an application to get it to work as a .NET application. How do I accomplish this at HMS? I can't do it from the control panel can I? What about creating virtual directories?

Both tasks have to be given to the HMS technicians (for now). While I imagine our Dev team plans on implementing them both in the control panel at some point, it's pretty low on the list of priorities since the average client doesn't need that particular functionality.

At any rate, email your request to support@hostmysite.com or simply give us a call and we'll be happy to setup any applications or virtual directories for you!

You guys rule - really - I had two different hosts for my domains before HMS and ended up literally hating them.

I am so glad to see that you guys take us, the customers, seriously and actually reply to our questions in a timely manner - EVERY time.

Consistant good service will keep me coming back for sure.

It seems like such an obvious statement, but I'm shocked that so many other companies just don't get it. Comcast Cable, for example, has given me some of the worst customer service of my life. It's like they continue to set lower and lower expectations for themselves and consistently fail to meet them.

Just to verify, that we are actually working on some of these types of tools, to make it more convientent for our customers. Plus reworking some of the existing tools to boost the performance of the CP. We are currently working o the backend stuff. Maybe Q1 of next year.

Hello All,
I'm actually writing to take a small poll here.

We have finished a whole lot of backend stuff as Byron previously put it. The upgrades have taken place and we have passed through the brunt of support issues directly related to the upgrades. When it comes to ASP & .Net service. How have the upgrades compared to the servers prior to the upgrades?

I want to know. Let us know what you think on this one. Any comments/suggestions are welcome.

Just wondering if this has ever been initiated from the control panel or do I still need to send an email to make a directory an application? If I do need to send an email, what information is needed? Does the directory need to exist now or will HMS create the directory?
If you haven't guessed, I'm new to IIS. I have just taken over the duties of webmaster for my rugby club's site and am learning this ASP, IIS stuff. I have created a directory called "test". This is where I am testing all of my work before going live. I want to try an application. Once I get it working, I will move the files to the root directory. So, will I need HMS to create a new Application directory or can I just move it to a new location through FTP?

When you email, you should probably include the domain name of the site in question and which directories need to be made an application (or let them know if it needs to be created if it's not already on there). If you keep everything in a subdirectory and move it later, it should work, but it all depends on the type of pathing you have used and if that parent directory has the same permissions.

We wouldlike to know the following.

We have CF+builder plan. Can we deploy .net applications and CF applications as we wish.

I have tested the CF application successfully.

On testing .net application, I know that on my local IIS I have to set my directory as an application to get it to work as a .NET application. How do I accomplish this at HMS? I can't do it from the control panel? What about creating virtual directories?

Also if I do ask you to create one for me how do I get to default.aspx on the root directory.
For instance it is requested to create a virtual directory as mitest, then I have to go to the file as www.domainname.com/mitest/test.aspx.

Question:
How create and use a file as index.aspx on the root, keeping my bin directory inside mitest.

You would have to submit this as a request to support@hostmysite.com

Simply copy the file to the location you wish.

via the control panel you can change both your default document and the order that it is processed in. For instance, if you have the following documents in your site

index.htm
index.cfm
index.aspx

The .htm will execute as your homepage. You can change this order though and move the .aspx file to the top of the list if you wish.
