Hello,

I have a mailing list of about 12,000 subscribers (and growing) that I need to move by June 1, 2007. My current service offered by Microsoft Bcentral is being discontinued. The recommened solution is to use constant contact but this is very costly at $150 a month. I was wondering if HMS might have some recommendations on what I might be able to do.

One thought I have is to purchase a Linux VPS and set up a php based program called Mailing List Manager:

http://www.mailing-manager.com/

My question about this option is would HMS allow me to send out this many emails or even use a VPS for this purpose? Thank you for any help you can offer.

Regards,

Nicko Sahlas

Just about every hosting account at HostMySite includes a free SmarterMail email list server account

http://www.hostmysite.com/support/list-server/

I think that will do what you want

This is great if your list is 100 or 200. My subscriber base is 12,000+.

I need customized subscribe forms
I need bounced emails handled automatically.
I need to send text and html based emails depending on the user.
I also need detailed tracking of who clicked on what.

SmarterMail Listserve does not do any of this.

Nsahlas, you can also try the emailing list program called "Scotmail" which is a great program that does everything you are looking for. I use it myself to great success, and it is relatively inexpensive program. You can get it at Mivacentral or from http://scotsscripts.com/ (the website is a lottle oogey and hard to navigate, but you can save a few bucks ordering it directtly from the developer via paypal).

Good luck!

try http://www.mailchimp.com/affiliates/?aid=aea4bad75e&afl=1 you have to pay but it's quite a good service. They've also just launched a campaign inspector (optional feature) to reduce the chances of your email notbeing delivered or being junked. I haven't tried it yet though but i've been using their email service for over a year now.

Thought i should make it clear that is an affiliate link. I'm not connected to the site in anyway but if i get them a new client we both get like 500 credits free. So why not. I hope i'm not breaking any forum rules.

If you get any Shared plan at HMS you will be fighting the Outgoing Spam filter. If you get the List Server, that can get expensive due the quanity. We have 2500 in our list and we send them from the Local SMTP Server from our Windows Base VPS. We send an email about once a week. The VPS plans do not go through the outgoing spam filter. We are paying $45 / month for this. It will move your emails out the door in good speed. If you use the List Server which runs about $10 per 10,000 emails, that will work well. I have personally blasted out 25k emails through a list server. But if you are sending emails everyday you will need your own box either VPS, Dedicated, or Colocated.
