I found mention in the forums and in the support articles that IMAP is supported with the "Premium" email server. Is this an upgrade or does it come with certain hosting plans? I cannot seem to find any other info on this?

Howard,
I believe that a premium upgrade is available for 5$ a month last time I checked. It doesn't come with certain hosting plans, and isn't listed on the site. But It is an offered service. Probably best to call them up. And since the price isn't listed, you could probably take it down to 2.95 a month.

I have the service on a few of my accounts, and it is $9.99 a month. And for the IMAP support, it's definitly worth it. I find it to be quicker than the standard server as well

Just to clarify Smile

Wow this is good to know, I didn't even to think to check for this feature on the plans. Just assumed it was supported on all plans.

Once you have IMAP, you'll never want or use POP email again Laughing

Yeah, to be totally honest I think it really should be included.

I've been with HMS for a couple of months and so far I find everything to be excellent. But I am disappointed with the lack of IMAP and SPAM protection in standard plans. $10/month just for IMAP and $1/account for Postini pushes the cost of hosting pretty far beyond today's averages. I have a Linux Builder pan with Postini on 5 of my email accounts. Factor in IMAP and my plan approaches $25/month.

I must say though, SmarteMail is about the best webmail system I have ever used.

Agreed. IMAP beats the pants off POP.

I agree. The only thing I could Understand is the IMAP support. Of course you know that with IMAP, all mail is stored on the server which results in the need for more diskspace on HMS's part. Since POP its all download to your PC.

I give my clients on my Windows VPS, IMAP support but I limit them so they don't hog my disk space with old emails.

So I can definitely understand a small cost (maybe like $5 a month instead of $10) to cover the extra overhead. But agree that Postini should absolutely be included free of charge with every hosting account. the $1 a month, per email account makes me feel like I'm being nickeled and dimmed. Which I hate passing on to my clients.

Just my opinion. But I still love HMS Very Happy

If you sign up for "Premium Hosting" (Which by the way I don't think they offer anymore because the link redirects to the Windows VPS page)

Premium email is included with premium hosting packages.

Just an FYI

Same situation here. I'm a reseller and I hate the idea of asking clients to pay for SPAM protection. Other companies I've hosted wiht use SpamAssasin and it has always worked great — and it's free. Really, I could even live with paying $20/month if I had IMAP and good SPAM protection included.

So, with your VPS, do you pay one fee for IMAP and use it for all your client domains? Also, do you use SmarterMail? If so, did you have to get your own license?

Well, when you purchase a Windows VPS, you get a 50 domain license for SmarterMail Professional (Not the Enterprise edition which is on shared accounts) And for SmarterStats. Which comes directly via an email from SmarterTools.

The email server runs directly from your VPS so you are in complete control. You are the admin, so you can choose to enable or disable features at your leisure. So you can have one account using IMAP, and another that does not. Its completely up to you.

I would take a look at the features of the Professional vs Enterprise editions of SmarterMail

http://www.smartertools.com/Products/SmarterMail/Features.aspx

Once thing I didn't realize is the SmarterStats Pro Edition doesn't let you send Email Reports. That feature is only in the enterprise edition. (Which is $599 for a license). And I missed that during the trial period so I'm going to have to get an Enterprise License to get that feature back.

SO just keep that in mind to be sure you're not missing out on any features you may be using in the Enterprise edition if you decide to make the switch.
