Billing vs. Support

In order to have this handled the quickest, I recommend contacting support vs. billing, because support is 24/7, wheras billing is not. If it's an issue of authorization, support supers can do that. Despite there being a separate dept. for billing, in my experience, you're best off leaving billing out of the loop.

Thanks. To be honest it's not being the smoothest of rides and had it not being that they get a real positive endorsements from peeps, i'd have given up by now. I guess i have 30days.

I advised them to change package and refund the balance but it seems that was not possible, so they refunded the full amount to my bank and gave me a number to call if i had any further questions. I didn't know what the status of my order was. So i figured it's all probably being cancelled. So i called up (wasn't put on hold) and spoke to a dude who was helpful and friendly enough. He explained that my order had been submitted but was still pending. I figured i needed to pay, so i got out the card and went through everything with him. That was done last evening and was advised it would probably take about 2 hours for the account to be set up. Still waiting. I'm not like irate or anything but i must admit i've wondered about this wonderful service peeps are talking about... I haven't seen anything spectacular so far. I still can't figure out where it all went wrong which is probably why i'm holding my peace.

Hello.

Keep in mind, you are getting a VPS, and VPS's are not like shared Hosting accounts. The process is not automated. Usually when you place an order a script is run and your account is automatically setup, and the system sends you an email with the setup information.

Virtual Private Servers must be configured Manually to your specifications and therefore take longer. WHen I ordered my VPS, it took about 24 hours before I got setup information. And I ordered over the phone instead of Online.

I have setup many many accounts, and sometimes something happens along the automation process where something get's messed up. It happens, computers aren't perfect. THe probably is usually resolved in an hour or two. Give it some time. If I were you I would do what comprug said and deal directly with support at all times. That is always the quickest route.

One thing you might want to consider. Move your accounts on a Friday afternoon. In theory it could take 48 hours for your domains to resolve with all the name servers out there. By doing it on a Friday everybody is happy Monday AM when they get to the office.

When we move domains here they are usually all resolved in 24 hours.

All the domains I have registered with HostMySite, resolve within 5 mins after changing the name Servers. Very Happy

I'm starting to think i'm better off with one of the normal packages rather than VPS plan. I've configured the website and pointed one of my domains to HMS webservers on Saturday.. is there anything else i need to do with VPS plans?

This may be a dumb question but does the DNS client service need to be running? Another hopefully straightforward question.. how many instance of SmarterMail and ASP components do i need to install? One's already installed for the default website but i was wondering whether i need to do it for all sites. My knowledge is basic but i'm prepared to learn as much as i can because the knowledge would be good for me.

A dedicated forum for VPS plans may be an idea...

I'm working on trying to get a dedicated area for VPS Accounts.

Don't give up so easy on the VPS plan.

You don't need the DNS service running. You just have to make sure you have your first website setp corectly as described HERE: http://www.hostmysite.com/support/dedicated/iis/newsite/

Just be sure to replace the 255.255.255.0 in that tutorial, with YOUR ip address. Or you can select (All Unassigned) from the drop down menu.

Once you do that, create a simple page that says something, then try to navigate to your site. That's the first step. Once you see something on your site, you're setup corectly.

You don't need to install anything. SmarterMail and SmarterStats are preinstalled. You just need to activate them. But first you have to get them both working...

Sorry if the screenshots look sloppy. I just edited out some private data.

Here's what your IIS setup for Stats and mail could look like. Others may do it differently, but this is how I do it to keep everything organized, and to give clients a login from their own domain.

You would create one new website called "SmarterStats" and One called "SmarterMail" (See the picture below)

Then each domain and their IP address would be added as "Stats.domain.com" as seen below. If the IP is the same for all the domains (and if you didn't purchase additional ones they will be the same) put that IP in the IP address field, and "Stats.domain.com" in the Host Header Field. SO basically, everone is going to get the same login page by going to stats.theirdomain.com. It basically just gives them a custom domain to log into.

You can do the same thing with Smarter Mail exactly as above except use "mail" instead of "stats" in the host header field:

Be sure both are using the correct ASP.Net version or they will not work

When you're ready to activate your licenses:

You're a gem.. just waiting for my site to resolve, then i'm sure a lot will be made clearer. I'd activates Smartermail.. will do the same for Smarterstats.

Any tips on ASP components such as ASPmail? Encrypt, Upload etc?

Thank you Jason!!!

You're in luck! They should be already pre-installed on your VPS Very Happy

I do not think so. ASP components are not free. You have to buy license and install them yourself.

Shaji,

They definitly are included on the VPS. I specifically uninstalled them since I don't us ASP.

See the VPS hosting plans and you will see for yourself. Look under "Installed ASP Components"
