I am looking for an application that converts video to flash player (or) some other open source player ... like the way google converts video to flash for playback on a browser. I would want to install the application on a server for anyone to use -- or it could be local running on the users machine -- but in the end I want to automate the process as much as possible.

I would also would like to be able to pick the thumbnail from any frame in the video (if possible).
Any suggestions orideas out there? Please respong to Rick - rick@visionefx.net

You could use Flash 8 Video Encoder. I use that and it works very well. But the video is sometimes choppy unless your using a flash video streaming server. Otherwise, it just uses HTTP Streaming

Rick,

It sounds nice, however I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be able to support anything that performs a serverside conversion for fear of resource usage and stability problems in the shared environment. You could get one of our WinVPS plans to address this though - that would allow you to maintain your own server environment and install special components.

Let us know if you're interested in this.
