I'm using :

var ip = '<!--#echo var="REMOTE_ADDR"-->'
</script>

to return the IP address, this only works if the page is .shtml.
Could this be made to work using .html and .htm ?

Solved it! Cold Fusion cfcontent allows one to get the
IP address even when the tag is called from a different domain.
