Since obtaining any sort of major ranking on a search engine is difficult as it is unless you have a specialty item or service, you should definitely take every opportunity and use whatever you can use. With rankings, one of the things that I always read is that any text in the page whatsoever would help. Use the alt tags, add plenty of comments and use keywords throughout those comments and use plenty of text in your site as well. You may also want to concentrate on one topic and then throw words in there from the other topics. That should get you ranked higher on the one topic, and the other ones will ride the coat tails so to speak.

while certainly true, u have to go back and think about allthose words you use and how they are there and why cssp designs will always rank higher than fp sites. hint - no garbage code to weigh down what they are looking for

I thought that meta tags were pratically dead. I know that some..SOME search engines use meta tags but I am almost 100% sure that google does not use meta tags. When the google bot comes around it searches for 2 (new) meta tags and I am not sure on this...
<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOARCHIVE"> <META NAME="GOOGLEBOT" CONTENT="NOARCHIVE"> http://www.searchengineworld.com/newsletter/2000/google_metatag.htm Most search engines use the content on the index/default page.. and only takes the content from the top portion and bottom portion of the page. |

the main rule with any search engine is
content is king and the cleaner the code the easier it is for the search bots or spyders to clearly rank your pages thats why say frontpage code will always suffer an analogy would be say ur standing in front of o store window reading a poster inside. now pretend the glass is y6our code. if its nice clean cssp code the glass will be crystal clear and u can read the poster easily and then be able too tell someone clearly & easily about it. now say the glass is frontpage code the glass will be all cloudy & mucking and if u look hard enough u can somewheat make out the poster but u couldnt acturatly tell someone about it. same goes with the engines, if ifs clear and easy the evevator goes up if not it goes down. but even if u do use nice code the content still needs to be good |

Lofty is 100% right - on all modern and future search engines - CONTENT IS KING
Search engines may even be on the way out...I saw a show today on the future of searching the vast amount of information that is out there and simply doing text searches is going to be replaced by context searches. Word use, context, and actual (what they called) "interviews" will help narrow down what you are looking for. |

I have read too many articles on the web indicating the inaccuracy of search engines. It was said in an article that only 33% of webpages are even indexed on the search engines. IMHO an accurate search engine must have no sway from advertisers and should rely on only the meta keywords and description of the site, but unfortunately since there are ways to fool the search engines with these meta sections, this unfortunately cannot be the case. As for the german enigma machine, there was a very interesting show on the History Channel the other day about the engima and I'm sure it will be shown again. The engima machine was a commerical product that the germans expanded on. The Poles and French knew about it for years prior to America getting into the war and actually the Poles had a working reproduction of it based on intel from a German double agent. The show related it more to cipher strength standards rather than google's searches though Jonathan Arena HMS |
