Does HMS have a policy on updating gems that are already installed? Do y'all send out emails to the tech contacts on your server before updating gems?

Or do you just suggest that we freeze our own gems?

Thanks.

There's not really a formal policy at this point, but gems would be updated upon customer request. It wouldn't really be practical to e-mail everyone on the server every time this happens. I would definitely recommend freezing to a particular version of a gem, especially if it looks likely later versions could break compatibility

As far as Rails itself, we will proactively upgrade those gems as new versions are released. Any customer apps should already be auto-frozen to the version of Rails they're built against anyway, so this is pretty safe
