I have had it with an unnamed company..... They are so bad..... Can anybody reccomend a good High Speed Internet (cable) company, or does a certain company have a monopoly, because there doesn't seem to be that many options...

I have Comcast. They give you a "dynamic" IP address, but my ip address has not changed in a year. (Probably becuase my router never gets turned off)

I host a webserver/ftp server, and never have a problem with ports. Hope that answers your question Very Happy

Same here... And what stinks is that literally every IP is blacklisted with SORBS and I inherited a blcklisted one.... It was so hard to change... ANd now... After arriving home from a trip and having all my equipment off for a week I discover I now have a New Jersey IP address! Mine went from 24 to 72! From THE MIDWEST TO NEAR MY SERVER! How can it be that off! New Jersey?

Shut your modem off for a minute, plug it back in, and comcast should throw you a new IP. If you keep it on, you essentially have a dedicated IP.

Check Verizon for FIOS. They have an online availability check. Even if it comes back unavailable, call them anyway. The page said unavailable for me, but when I called they scheduled me for an install in less than a week!

FIOS rocks. 5Mb/2Mb speed for $35/mo. They give you a free wired or wireless router and they also convert your landline to digital over fiber, which means no more line noise. They also have a 15Mb and 30Mb package if that's not enough. Knock on wood, I've had zero service interruptions since I had it installed nearly a year ago.

I've heard rumors from the install techs that they're planning for digital TV over the same fiber line within a year or so, probably a version of DirecTV, with On Demand and all that.
