Doing a netstat (you know windows cmd prompt console command) I see the following:
(and this is when I have no progs that should be working with the internet running) Active Connections Proto Local Address Foreign Address State TCP zalman:1069 localhost:1068 TIME_WAIT TCP zalman:1044 65.54.239.210:1863 TIME_WAIT TCP zalman:1054 modemcable113.183-202-24.mc.videotron.ca:6346 TIME_WAIT TCP zalman:1062 62.215.145.154:6346 TIME_WAIT TCP zalman:1082 chello062179067133.chello.pl:6346 TIME_WAIT TCP zalman:1083 dsl-KK-068.58.101.203.touchtelindia.net:6346 TIME_WAIT The "modemcable..videotron" and "chello" and touchtelindia is strange to me... (and then those IPs without name) |

You can do a lookup of those names and IP addresses at:
http://whois.bw.org Those are domains in Canada, India and Poland. touchtelindia.net is an ISP as is videotron.ca and chello.pl To see what a specific port is, review its purpose at http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers If these connections have no reason to be connecting to you, I recommend implementing a firewall or (as these ports indicate you may be running a linux box) ipchains. |
