I have been contemplating trying to get a job with a local company doing web design / development. Working for myself is great, but something more stable would be nice too. I have taught myself everything from reading tutorials and practice. But my skill set is limited to HTML, FLASH, ASP.NET ( using c# ). When searching monster I see that they want you to know everything under the sun. Worst of all they don't specify a salary range, making me wonder if its worth it to learn the additional stuff for the job. Does anybody know what a realistic salary range for such a job would be? Or is the entire world going freelance?

Yeah, freelance is nice unless you like vacation time, health insurance, and not stressing about having enough work, or when you do, getting it all done. And there is all the invoicing and bookkeeping....

I got lucky and found a contract job wiht the state. I'm still "freelance" but I have a pretty much perpetual contract with the state. When I say "pretty much freelance" I mean that I don't get benefits like insurance, vacation etc, but I do get a decent amount of money and a TON of flexability for all my other projects.
